Applying a hair system or wig onto the head is made much easier these days with secure wig tape. Generally, two methods are common for the attachment of hairpieces: Toupee tape or glue adhesives. Each one has its own benefits and disadvantages. However, this blog will look at why you should use tape with your hairpiece and why it’s a better option than liquid adhesives.
Let’s first look at glues as they still remain a very popular option.
Hairpiece wearers generally favor glue for its fine look, precision and durability. The liquid wig glue can be applied accordingly, therefore, giving a natural look and due to its strong hold power, it tends to stay longer and is preferred if you do not wish to remove your hairpiece and wear it on a more extended basis.
Strong hold power means strong chemicals which may damage the hairpiece or skin and potentially cause sensitivity or allergic reactions. Glue adhesives are applied directly on the surface of the scalp. Depending on the glue and how it’s applied, it can be messy or hard to remove. Not to mention that as you keep using glue, there is more wear and tear on the hair system which can lead to its lifespan decreasing much quicker.
Now, let’s look at tapes and why they are so beneficial.
- Wig tapes come in various shapes and sizes which make them convenient for different hairlines.
- The new wig tapes have much better-holding power and can make the wig stay for a few days without trouble.
- Toupee tapes are time and labour-saving. You don’t have to wait for them to dry a bit nor do they make things messy. They are very useful and handy. These tapes do not require much effort and are quick to fix and remove.
- They are less damaging than glue adhesives because as aforementioned, they do not hold strong chemicals which could damage the scalp or hair. They are also a good choice to start with if you are new to the world of hairpieces.
If not removed carefully, tape can also damage the hair and scalp. Similarly, if the correct size and shape aren’t selected, it may not give a neat and natural finish.
Ultimately, the choice is down to you, your preferences and your budget. If you would like further information to help you with your choice, you can refer to the following video:
